Basing upgrade for my Slann

Quick update on my progress to get my Lizards tooled up for 8th Edition.

My Slann has been a work in progress since around 2004. His floating-throne was finished that year and then sometime around 2008 I came back and finished the fat toad himself. I originally wanted to create a scenic base for him, seeing as when he's fully kitted out he comprises about a quarter of 2000 point army and he's going to attract attention - being all magical and floaty-like. As you can see, a few pebbles and a broken Saurus regiment standard is hardly scenic.

Finding inspiration in the back yard, I decided to give the base an upgrade. After selecting just the right wood chip from the flower bed - to act as big rock to be overgrown with jungle flora and fauna - and cutting a hole in it for the flying stem, I festooned the base with some serpent swarm serpents (not like I'll be using swarms anytime soon) and a 5th edition Saurus shield for nostalgia. It kinda goes with the snakes and frogs sculpted on the palanquin and fits with the popular use of the Lore of Life by Lizardmen players on the interwebs. Something to note, it's important to remember that your Saurus warriors' tails hang off and overlap the base behind them - I almost positioned the rock and snakes in a way so that anything in front of the Slann wouldn't rank up properly.

I'll hopefully paint this up soon and get some proper pictures of the whole model that weren't taken with my iPhone.

  2. I know exactly what you mean with those saurus tails! I has to modify a "scenic base" quite a bit because of those dang tails.

  3. Luckily I just happened to have some Saurus hanging out on my painting tray when I was positioning everything on the base and then the light bulb went off. Disaster avoided! If it weren't for those tails I'd probably had thrown on a few more serpents too.
