The Knights of Bal Timorea Winner!

Santa Cruz Warhammer announced the winner of the drawing for their Knights of Bal Timorea - yours truly!  I can assure all the participants and those who followed the project that they will go to good use.  The Brettonians were my first WFB army and have always held a special place in my heart.  I honestly intend to get some games in with this guys, so expect to see them fighting against the forces of evil across the battlefields of Southern California in the near future!  I feel really lucky to get to keep all these great looking models.  Here's all the knights together:

Knight of Bal Timorea Finished!

Well, things haven't been all that productive around here at One Inch Warriors with the holidays, work and a road trip to the Grand Canyon.  However, I managed to sit down and finish off my knight:

Not terribly excited about how the is red turning out, I think it needed another shade in there between the base coat and the Blood Red.  We'll see how it looks when the whole thing comes together.

On a related note, the deadline for Bal Timorea participants to complete their knights for submission has been extended to January 1 (see John's announcement on Santa Cruz WH).  This means that if you've been thinking of participating in the project but were pressed for time, you now have more - so get off yer ass and paint a knight!  If you don't have a knight to spare, I'm sure you can scrounge one up on the cheap.  I got mine of eBay for a reasonable fee.

If you've been living under a rock or other similar heavy object, then you've been missing out on one of my favorite, most super awesome, blogs Santa Cruz Warhammer.  Being a quasi-impulsive, undisciplined hobbyists when comes to sticking to and finishing projects, I've become side tracked away from my Lizardmen in order to join the illustrious ranks of the Knights of Bal Timorea!  Basically, this is a collaborative project whereby participants paint up a knight and then a winner is drawn from amongst the participants who gets to keep all the knights - click the link for details.

As you may or may not know, I have an old 5th edition Brettonian army dutifully lurking about in the infamous storage cabinet in the garage, waiting for a day when their glory will be revived and they will be repainted.  This will not be happening anytime soon and I decided that I want to hold on to all my OOP models, so I bought a single Knight of the Realm off eBay* to join in the Bal Timorea project.  Also, being inspired by Mike's Dutch knight, I though I could put the four shields sculpted onto the Bretonnian warhorse's barding to good use.

Castles Made of Foam

I was hoping to get enough work done on my Stegadon and post a WIP picture, but I didn't make as much progress on him as I would have liked this week. I wanted to offer up some "real" hobby content as a break from the maniacal ramblings of my last few posts (although Brent and John over at the HOP seem to have enjoyed some of it, much to my delectation). Thus, I bring you a castle!

1st post of substance

That little Bretonnian Knight was one of my first Warhammer purchases way back in 1998 when army selection via percentages was in vogue (army selection, like fashion, apparently goes in cycles) and Nigel Stillman was a god (more on my hero later). I painted the little guy with some Testor's and Ral Partha paints. He's not even based, but at least I managed to get a decal on the shield.

The Saurus hero is the latest figure that I've finished (by latest, I mean last August, damn I paint slow). He has all kinds of washes and shading and I even successfully incorporated spot colors. He's good, not great, but I'm proud of the guy. I'm finishing up a unit of 5 cold-one riders to go along with him (although I've yet to see an 8th Edition Lizard list online that incorporates these guys), when they're done I'll go into the in's and out's of painting them.
